Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about OpenSalary.eu

What is OpenSalary?

+

OpenSalary is a salary transparency and job board platform helping professionals understand compensation across Europe and beyond. We combine crowdsourced salary data with transparent job listings so you can make informed career decisions — no more guessing what a role actually pays.

How is salary data collected?

+

Our data comes from three main sources: anonymized submissions from verified professionals, employer-provided salary ranges on job postings, and curated public salary surveys. This multi-source approach ensures broad coverage and reliable data across industries and regions.

Is my data anonymous?

+

Yes, absolutely. All salary submissions are fully anonymized before entering our database. We strip personally identifiable information at the point of submission — your name, email, and employer are never attached to your salary data point. No one, including our team, can trace a submission back to you.

How accurate is the salary data?

+

We use outlier detection algorithms, cross-reference multiple data sources, and apply statistical validation to ensure accuracy. Every data point includes the sample size so you can judge confidence levels yourself. Salary ranges are shown rather than single figures to honestly reflect the variability in compensation packages.

Can I compare salaries across cities or countries?

+

Yes. OpenSalary includes cost-of-living adjustments so you can compare compensation across different cities and countries on a like-for-like basis. A €70k salary in Lisbon and a €90k salary in Munich may have very different real-world purchasing power — we help you see that clearly.

How do I submit my salary?

+

It takes under two minutes: click the 'Submit Salary' button, fill out the short form with your role, location, and compensation details, then confirm your submission. No account is required — we keep the barrier as low as possible to encourage participation.

Do you cover salaries outside of Europe?

+

While we focus primarily on European tech jobs, we also include remote positions that hire from anywhere. Our database includes salaries from companies hiring EU-based talent.

Can I search for specific job titles or companies?

+

Yes! Use the search bar at the top of the jobs page to filter by job title, company name, technology stack, or location. Results update in real-time as you type. Note that search is currently limited to the job listings already on OpenSalary.eu — it does not search the entire internet.

What job categories are supported?

+

We cover a wide range of industries including technology, finance, marketing, healthcare, engineering, design, and more. Our category list grows continuously as professionals from new fields contribute their data. If your industry isn't listed yet, you can submit under a general category and we'll add specific ones as volume grows.

How do job listings work?

+

Employers post job listings with mandatory salary ranges — that's the core rule of OpenSalary. Every listing shows the compensation band upfront so candidates know what to expect before applying. Listings are active for 30 days (or 60 on Premium plans) and automatically expire to keep the board fresh.

Is OpenSalary free?

+

Completely free for job seekers. You can browse salaries, compare compensation, and apply to jobs at no cost. Employers pay to post job listings (starting at €199), which is how we sustain the platform while keeping salary data accessible to everyone.

How can I report incorrect data?

+

Every salary entry has a flag button you can use to report data that looks incorrect or suspicious. Our team reviews all flagged entries within 48 hours. If a submission doesn't pass our verification checks, it's removed from the dataset. Community vigilance helps keep our data reliable.

Do you sell my data?

+

No, never. We do not sell, license, or share individual user data with third parties. Our revenue comes entirely from employer job postings. Your trust is the foundation of this platform — without honest submissions, the data has no value, and we will never compromise that.

How often is salary data updated?

+

Salary submissions are accepted continuously and appear in the database in real time. Aggregated salary statistics (averages, medians, percentiles) are recalculated in a monthly refresh cycle to ensure the numbers reflect current market conditions rather than outdated snapshots.
